Corrosion of a metal surface on contact with an inhomogeneous non-metallic coating, forming corrosion elements. The corrosion of coatings is a special case of contact corrosion. Non-metallic materials” may include: deposits from the medium, e.g. dust, sand, scale or corrosion products formed on the surface, e.g. rust or scale particles.
